Life Gone Wild vs. Reckless And Relentless

Posted: January 25, 2011 in Anarchy in the UK

To start things off I would like to comment that this will be my first ever blog entry and I can’t think of a better band to kick things off with than the ever growing sensation that is Asking Alexandria.

It’s been about two years now since their debut album “Stand Up and Scream” and from the moment I first heard that record I was completely blown away. Rock N Roll has many different faces and genres as time goes on and these guys are quickly creating a category of their own, while taking on the world by storm.  There aren’t enough great things to say about “Stand Up and Scream” from the creepy yet alluring “Alerion” to the seductively brutal “Not The American Average” and wrapping it all up with the great party anthem of “When Everyday’s The Weekend” These guys deliver amazing in your face “F**k you, we’re gonna rock your faces off whether you like it or not!” rock n roll and it is an intense journey from start to finish with tales of love, lust, betrayal, murder, and survival. Heavy riffs combined with earth shattering breakdowns, all topped off with the amazing vocal work of Danny Worsnop this is a band that will leave you standing up and screaming for more!

Hopefully, however by this point I am sure you know all about “Stand Up and Scream” so what I am here to touch base on is their newest EP “Life Gone Wild” and putting to rest any worries that they have changed their sound for their up coming record “Reckless and Relentless” set to be released sometime in April of 2011 through the Summerian record label.

“Life Gone Wild” was something that for me was very exciting, I didn’t even preview it on itunes I simply just clicked “purchase” as quickly as possible. The EP contains two late 80’s covers by one of my all time favorite bands of all time, Skid Row. Covers include both “Youth Gone Wild” and “18 and Life” (thus creating the title of the EP). Both covers are great filled with raw young in your face energy and power from the band and to this date I can’t think of anyone better suited to do vocal covers for Sebastian Bach than Danny Worsnop. Both songs seem to stay pretty true to the originals musically but Asking Alexandria whether they like it or not left just enough of their British flare to be able to call them their own. Many people were worried that they had dropped their screaming and had taken on a whole new sound when really and truly it was just for fun, as well as the two Dub-Step remixes that they included on their on songs, all in all this EP was simply them experimenting with their musical talents and to me they deserve a standing ovation.

What people should really pay attention to and start marking down the days on the calendar for is the song “Breathless”. This is a song that they have already incorporated into their live set and is all the Asking Alexandria anyone could ask for. To say that this song is heavy would simply be an understatement, it is that and more. The song opens up with typical AA fashion with the line “Get the fuck away from ME!” Musically you can tell that they have matured and have a very clear mindset of what they want this next record to sound like. They managed to make sure that you can tell this song does not belong on “Stand Up and Scream” but still delivers their original message loud and clear. They are pushing themselves not only musically but lyrically as well, they have had much more time to sit and write these songs with a clearer state of mind (still rock n roll but with a little bit less booze and drugs infused in it).  Unlike their first record where Danny pretty much free styled and sang from his heart on most of the songs, on “Reckless and Relentless” expect tales that are just that with music behind it that will for sure leave your ears bleeding for more. To wrap this up, If you are already an Asking Alexandria fan, please I stress that you do not worry about their sound, those crazy British fools will give you exactly what you are looking for and then some. They have not abandoned who they are, and what they set out to be this five man machine that is Asking Alexandria, and to please become just as excited as I am for April when their new album goes on sale. I highly suggest checking out their website to see release and tour dates because they have a very busy schedule ahead, and I can say that they are easily in the top 3 best live bands category of today’s rock world. Rock on and get pumped!

To be honest, some of the screaming usually turns me off to a band. With this band though, its so much more about the actual music–these guys are really talented. They are so good that they can even cover a pop song and make it sound awesome 😉
